On occasion of the festival of simplicity organised by Philips and held in Milan on the 17th, 18th and 19th of November, Francesco Morace tries to understand how and why simplicity today is so important to people. The game that he proposed is this: simplicity is a dice. Each face of the dice represents a dimension of simplicity.
The 6 faces of simplicity
• The aesthetic dimension of simplicity
• The ethic dimension of simplicity
• The technical dimension of simplicity
• The existential dimension of simplicity
• The energetic/dynamic dimension of simplicity
• The affective dimension of simplicity
Trying to understand how we can make them interact. We know that today the more difficult objective that people chase after, is that of simplifying their lives, without the loss of sense or substance. To simplify without becoming banal or flattening ones experience becomes an art worthy of a Zen master. The demand that emerges is that of going to the heart of things, to live relevant and memorable experiences, that start from the simplicity and quality of gestures or of a smile. The luxury of the future however is enclosed in the time of life and the energy in employing it, it is important that this simplification is the direct expression of a great value, of a profound passion, of an unique emotion. Simplification in this way becomes a precise and cutting choice, deciding priorities, and helping to give a more profound sense to ones existence. In this choice the aesthetic and ethic dimensions, the affective and energetic dimensions, the technical and existential dimensions are all interwoven. One has to make them ones own and better understand them, transforming them into life strategies.
